11. You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire. They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. The criticism is distasteful and unjustified. What do you do? Speak up; tell them my honest opinion. If they are people that I respect, then I will give them the benefit of the doubt that their opinion is based in honest experience. I would probably say things like "In my experience . . ." or try to give some perspective based on what I know of the person.
12. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be? "Try it, you'll like it!" - Yo Gabba Gabba
13. Would you break the law to save a loved one? Um, yes. Thus also satisfying my urge to be an outlaw and gunslinger.
14. Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity? Many many times. I work with people with disabilities and I am constantly thrown on my haunches by how wrong my assumptions are or how something totally purposeless (in my eyes) turns out to be communication, expression, or new-found ability.
15. What’s something you know you do differently than most people? I write my letters backwards and upside down, I do math in my head in ways that are way more complicated (needlessly) than other people (my husband and I compare on a regular basis),
16. How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy? Because I'm weird, unique and just plain different, and so are you, and so is everyone. We're all just a little special :)
17. What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? What’s holding you back? Teach a college course, but I'm afraid I'll be spread too thin, and am waiting for my kids to grow up a bit. Probably a bad excuse, as they will only require more of my time as they become teenagers.
18. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of? I know that I have in the past, but because of fun self-help stuff like this, I let them go, and I really can't think of anything. Woot!
19. If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why? I am pretty happy living in the state that I'm in, but if I needed to move to another country, I might choose Italy. It is where I still have relatives, and the culture appeals to me.
20. Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster? Alright, alright now you "50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind" you. No need to ridicule the impatient people, but since you are asking, No, I don't.

How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are? 27? I don't know if everyone feels this way or not, but I think as I age, my perception of my personal wisdom has receded. If you'd asked me this when I was young, I would have said 80s, ten years ago, it would have probably been in the 60s. Right now, it is hovering just above "too silly to actually be responsible for anything of any importance" age.
Which is worse, failing or never trying? Mos def never trying. Mos def. Failing is necessary for succeeding, and once you get your taking-it-personally emotions out of the way, is really where most of the fun is.
If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do? Because we are creatures of habit, and naturally afraid/suspicious of change. Probably because we get too comfortable with a life that makes us happy in some ways, but when the other not so great parts happen, we are not motivated enough/ find enough security in the good to do anything about it. Others view the bad as a means to an end, never thinking to look for a more desirable means.
When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done? I think, and certainly hope, that the answer will be "no". My favorite quote is from Moby Dick about a character named Bulkington. In noting how this man sets sail on voyage after voyage with no desire for the safety of land, in defense of independent thinking, Ishmael notes "so, better is it to perish in that howling infinite, than to be ingloriously dashed upon the lee, even if that were safety!"
It reminds me of my grandfather, and of people who live their lives through thoughtful and deliberate action. I strive to live my life this way.
What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world? I wish that increasing a people's access to freedom did not necessarily increase their ability to do others harm.
If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich? An easy answer is raising my kids, and being with family. Those things give me the most happiness, and OH if I could only get paid to do them! Otherwise, probably being creative, or problem solving. Maybe homesteading.
Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing? I am definitely doing something that I believe in, but I am probably also settling, as there are higher levels at which I can do more good. This is also not the only thing that I believe in, not "my calling", as they say.
If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently? I would actually be doing it just the same as I am. Although, I do think that I would need to hit upon a way to make a decent living doing what I do.
To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken? Somewhat. I think that a willingness to try, to be open to new experiences, to let life teach you lessons and others to teach you from their experience, all have a lot of influence. But life is life, and we are but leaves in the wind of whatever :)
Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things? This is a toughy. I think that if you asked the people who know me, they would say that I value both very highly, but that considering whether or not I am doing the right things takes up a large plot of rel-estate in my mind. My husband says that I am empathetic to a fault on occasion, constantly assessing how my and other's actions will make other feel. No matter how pleasing it may be for me to do something the right way, doing the right things seems more important.

I DONT KNOW HOW TO ANSWER 5 QUESTIONS!!! LOL

1. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
I would be 24 years old. (I'm currently 26.)
2. Which is worse, failing or never trying?
Never trying. Which is something that I do the most - out of fear of failure, I often don't try. But ultimately if you never try you can never succeed either.
3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
Life is the longest thing we'll ever know. We do so many things we don't like because sometimes either they're necessary, it's done out of habit, or for the sake of other people. We like so many things we don't do because it's important to have ideals and dreams for yourself - to have a picture of who you are and what you like so you can strive towards them. We don't do these things sometimes because, well... we're not perfect and can't do everything that we want to do for various reasons, whether it's out of fear, lack of motivation, or the circumstances aren't right.
4. When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
Up until this point, it's a tough call. I think that I've probably said more than I've done, but that doesn't mean I haven't done a lot already. There will always be ambitions, dreams, or goals that fall through and don't amount to anything, and I think that's okay. People change and while it would be great that we could accomplish everything we wanted to, I think it's unrealistic to expect to complete 100% of everything we've planned to.
5. What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?
The negativity and the emotional and physical violence that happens around the world. Everyday people get discriminated against for different reasons, and must face abuse from the people around them. And of course, the violence that occurs within countries in civil wars and also the violence that occurs in international wars as well. It's all needless violence. I've always thought how crazy it is that it all comes down to luck - you can be born in a peaceful country like Canada and grow up to go to school - or you can be born into a war-torn country and have to grow up carrying guns. Nobody in these countries were able to choose how they were going to grow up. It's a little unreal that it's just happenstance according to where you live in the world if you'll grow up and prosper or have to deal with surviving another day.
6. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
Playing video games all day, haha. But since I don't think that contributes much to society (at all), I'd have to say something where I'm helping people. Thankfully my career goals align with this - I'm hoping on becoming a licensed counselor or psychologist once I've finished school.
7. Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
A bit of both. I'm settling for what I'm doing *right now* in a way, but that's mainly because I'm in a transitional stage in life. I'm still doing what I believe in (in the long run) because I'm currently waiting to start university in the Fall. I have my goals set out according to what I believe in, and I've made plans in order to follow them through. However, when it comes to day-to-day life, I struggle sometimes doing what is best for me and doing things that would further help my situation. I deal with clinical depression and have a hard time with the daily activities and making healthy choices for myself and my behaviours.
8. If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
Honestly, I don't think I'd live my life any differently much at all. Maybe I would find some way to travel more - that's been one of my major life dreams. But really, I don't have any regrets up until this point - my life experiences, however big or small they may be, have shaped who I am today and I don't regret that. Missing any part of what has led me up until this point would change who I am, and I wouldn't want that. I wouldn't mind seeing more sunsets and sunrises and to be a bit more adventurous though. But I'm not perfect and I'd say that my personal wins have outweighed my losses.
9. To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
Pretty drastically. You could argue that it has been my psychiatrist and social worker who have controlled the course of my life to some degree - moreso in the beginning when I was hospitalized, but ultimately it comes down to what you decide to do with your own therapy. I've been in control of where my life has been going in the last few years, and it's only been because of a lot of hard work on my part that I'm actually furthering myself and my life. This all being said, in the beginning of my teenage years, I wasn't in control of the physical events that happened in my life - I was living on my own at the age of 15 because of being kicked out due to a mental illness in my family. I also developed severe depression and anxiety over the years, so there's an element of that where I'm not completely in control of how I feel or how my life goes when I'm not feeling right.
10. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
Hah, I'd love to say doing the right things. But actually worried? I'm more worried about doing things right than I am about doing the right things because I'm a perfectionist. But I *care more* about doing the right thing than I am the other. I don't really question myself too much in my conscience and I believe that when it comes to a certain situation, I'll generally choose to do the right thing. So I don't really worry about it.

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
I think I would be old, like 85, I never go out. Never party or drink. Just stay at home and watch movies with John. In short... I have no life. I feel like life is just happening to me and that I have no control. I already feel like my life is over!
Which is worse, failing or never trying?
I guess I don't like to fail - But i know the right answer is never trying. The thing is that you can't ever know until you try. I wonder what would happen if I just tried to do some of the things I want to do. Not just speak about how hard life is but instead get out there and actually achieve some goals.
If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do? Good QUestion! I believe I waste so much time of stuff that I don't even enjoy doing. But I get that's what Im doing the 101 Goal in 1001 days for.!!
When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done? YES, of course duh. Who hasn't. But nah seriously, I think it was bad of me to talk about how I was going to get s scholarship for running to those people I was on that biking trip with. I just wanted to relate, they were talking about how there daughter was sports person of the year at her highschool. I guess there a difference in sharing things and boasting about yourself. I think Im still learning but hey, that's right, it's a learning experience.
What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?
Satans rule and authority being over it. I feel like there's so many things that are wrong in this world. And that popular belief that we could/would have peace if this or that happened makes us foolishly follow things and people with abandon, when we should just be following Christ. But that is impossible as Satan is constantly usurping us. People may think it's far feached but I hope the Lord returns soon to Reclaim His kingdom and people.
If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
doing covers professionally, teaching people music, being a philosophere.
Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
I believe thats a all or none perspective question. Im doing some things I believe in but I guess my mission statement is a bit of a joke. I don't even attend meetings! Not consistantly for 2 years!
If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
I would get married. I would make children and raise them to be God fearing and hard workers. I would get my degree straight away. I would work harder and save more.
To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
Haven't, haven't chosen anything. I haven't got a degree, haven't chosen to live here. Seldom make my own decisions! Owaach.
Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
Doing things right. I'm guessing this is suppose to make me feel guilty. But no actually I believe doing the right thing is not what God wants. He wants us to express Him. So doing thing right is more important in my opinion.
You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire. They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. The criticism is distasteful and unjustified. What do you do? Never confide in them again. Probably avoid them. Feel bad. But i dunno, it depends if I'd defend her or not. Do I really love these friends or am I just hanging out with them to pass the time. I think I'd feign ignorance. Sad but true.
If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
learn to love people. not for what they do. not for what they are. BUT FOR WHO THEY ARE. I don't really know this. But I know I'd want to learn to be more like this if I could go back.
Would you break the law to save a loved one? I guess if it's rushing to the hospital hell yea. I dunno if i'd break the law, but i'd sure as helll make sure they were okay.
Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity? Yea, Im sure I see it all the time. Often it's because Im stupid, ignorant or presumptious that I think something is insanity. Some times I believe all "insanity" is the creative expression of what's going in inside us.
Most kids are insane.
What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
Not sure, I'll think about this and come back to it. I guess I tend to run differently from others. I used to get teased for the way i'd run like forrest gum ... Legs going everywhere and arms swinging.
How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy?
I dunno, Jealousy? Maybe when people see me happy they get jealous and that stops them seeing why i am happy. I guess Im ALSO selfish and believe that others are supposed to be happy to serve me. SO what makes me happy doesn't make them happy because I believe they'll love me anyway.
What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? What’s holding you back?
I'd like to contact people. I 'd like to do alot of things. I dunno, Im scared. Please don't delve to deeply, im afraid of what will come up? I feel like it's a good idea to contact people, but I dunno how. Maybe talk to Hayley. and other people. Im just afraid they'll talk about me, laugh at me and treat me badly. It's fear dude. But I believe that I can be content.
Are you holding onto something you need to let go of? Probably. I need to let go of that certainty and plunge into the unknown, I guess I need to learn to trust myself and let go of my fear of failure and believe that in Christ all things are possible! AMEN>>>>
If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why? jerusalem for a year. I'd love to live there and learn more about the holy city.
Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster? sometimes it relieves pressure when I feel tension due to panic or desire to travel faster. Of course it doesn't make things any quicker... it is just an outward expression of my busy mind.
Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?joyful simpleton. I don't think intelligence can really make you happy. But I don't really think it's so simple, Letting go of things - beliefs that if we're smarter we'll be happy. I guess that's a good question!!! That's why these questions are "life changing" right?
Why are you, you? Genes and environment. I dunno, I don't know. Maybe it's all happening to me or maybe Im choosing to be this way. Im me because I feel pressure to be a certain way. Im also me because Im happy. Content. If I wasn't happy- i'd change.
Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?Yes, Sometimes. It's harder than it looks. IF I TRY REALLY HARD - maybe.
Which is worse, when a good friend moves away, or losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you? second one. of course. I guess facebook take away a bit of that barrier. I guess it's when they start monitoring what they show you on facebook, that's when I feel worst.
What are you most grateful for? second chances. Often the people you think would never give them always do and the people you don't doubt would, don't.
Would you rather lose all of your old memories, or never be able to make new ones?
depends. People change. We grow apart. im just learning to be more accepting of those changes. BUt dude i hate change.
Is is possible to know the truth without challenging it first? not sure. I think We all have things that challenge us. The truth hurts.
Has your greatest fear ever come true?
No
Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?
I guess it was a good thing i was upset that time I was with Rachel Partridge. She actually spoke to me to ask it i was okay. this was whenwe weren't talking.
What is your happiest childhood memory? What makes it so special?
riding my bike. I guess it was a bit of independence. Aw yea, i was in dunedin and I met the boy next door. We got on REALLY well and we snuck away and went for a bike ride. This was at a time when I had very few friends. I hated my school. He was almost as good as a boyfriend to me. THough we didn't hang out after that- as I was grounded- mum didn't know... It was good until i tried sticking my foot in the front wheel while going down hill. "Spoke" for itself really. lol.
At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive?
when i was with people i love.
If not now, then when?
i feel okay now.
If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose?
achieved what?
Have you ever been with someone, said nothing, and walked away feeling like you just had the best conversation ever? yes, All the time.
Why do religions that support love cause so many wars? they don't - sin causes wars.
Is it possible to know, without a doubt, what is good and what is evil? they are from the same tree duh.
If you just won a million dollars, would you quit your job? yes.
Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing? more work i enjoy doing.
Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before? yes! i feel like im doing circuits of my fishbowl life.
When was the last time you marched into the dark with only the soft glow of an idea you strongly believed in? a few years ago. That place was insane... literally.
If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today? my family.
Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous? No, funny question. I guess if I knew the exact amount of money it would be different.
What is the difference between being alive and truly living?
I dunno, A HUGE DIFFERENCE. People are drawn to me when Im truely living. When your alive, you can't wait for the day to end. When your living every moment counts. You couldn't dream of living any second of you day in anything but the present. You don't know what you hope for except that you make the most of everyday.
When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right? when i let go of what's in it for me. thats why my mission statement is to take christ as my centre and reality and forget myself my needs my wants my desires , etc, and instead be content in christ.
If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake? because we are ultimately afraid we will loose ourselves. I guess we all make mistakes, if you want to take it to the extreme why not ask- if we all learn from our mistakes, why don't we make more mistakes to learn more? Define mistakes.
What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?
I would probably be worse. I believe people are made strong from living through others critisms. like how the fat chick becomes more popular than the skinny chick because she learns to be funny. it's not the being fat that makes her funny... She's judged everyday.
When was the last time you noticed the sound of your own breathing? YES! especially when i wear earplugs. I find it very centering. I find it calming and relaxing. I find it invigorating.
What do you love? Have any of your recent actions openly expressed this love? Recently I almost told some one. But I sort of gave up. It sucks.
In 5 years from now, will you remember what you did yesterday? What about the day before that? Or the day before that? no, I remember in chunks. Actually I probably will remember what I did yesterday. I feel out of my kayak in the sea and someone had to come and rescue me! It was fun but scary!
Decisions are being made right now. The question is: Are you making them for yourself, or are you letting others make them for you? letting others make them for me. I guess we think that false thought that if we have more choice we will be happier. It's not true. Sorry. choices don't make us happier. Restrictions do. If we don't obey the law we end up in jail. How can you be happy in such a place. You may decide to drive fast. and get a ticket or worse... But letting the speed limit decide your speed- and driving to the conditions, of course- result in you staying alive longer and having more opportunities to have fun.

I should note that I'm doing this as a "get the snark out of your system" exercise, because many of these questions bother me at various levels. Out of respect for those for whom this is a genuinely inspirational exercise, I won't post my answers unless I have something seriously thoughtful to say.

Completed 4/10/2013

This took patience & really made me think but overall it was motivating and worth it :] ..if I'm alive I'll come back and read my answers next couple years, maybe my perspective may change.

5 hard questions to go.

15. WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU KNOW YOU DO DIFFERENTLY THAN MOST PEOPLE? i don't think i am that different.

14. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN INSANITY WHERE YOU LATER SAW CREATIVITY? a lot of times, actually

13. WOULD YOU BREAK THE LAW TO SAVE A LOVED ONE? definitely

12. IF YOU COULD OFFER A NEWBORN CHILD ONLY ONE PIECE OF ADVICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE? live for yourself and don't let anyone tell you what to do next.

11. YOU’RE HAVING LUNCH WITH THREE PEOPLE YOU RESPECT AND ADMIRE. THEY ALL START CRITICIZING A CLOSE FRIEND OF YOURS, NOT KNOWING SHE IS YOUR FRIEND. THE CRITICISM IS DISTASTEFUL AND UNJUSTIFIED. WHAT DO YOU DO? i get up and leave them because i can't really stand people talking bad things about other people... specially if that person is my friend and he/she is not present to defend him/herself

10. ARE YOU MORE WORRIED ABOUT DOING THINGS RIGHT, OR DOING THE RIGHT THINGS? doing things right. i don't think there's such things as "the right thing" 'cause it all depends on the perspective, in my opinion. so yeah, it's better to do whatever you need to do, but do it right

9. TO WHAT DEGREE HAVE YOU ACTUALLY CONTROLLED THE COURSE YOUR LIFE HAS TAKEN? I guess i don't really control it.

8. IF THE AVERAGE HUMAN LIFE SPAN WAS 40 YEARS, HOW WOULD YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE DIFFERENTLY? i wouldn't 'cause no one can assure me that i will live more than 40 years so yeah, i already do live everyday like it's the last

7. ARE YOU DOING WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN, OR ARE YOU SETTLING FOR WHAT YOU ARE DOING? i'm settling for what i am doing 'cause actually i don't really now what i do believe in.

6. IF HAPPINESS WAS THE NATIONAL CURRENCY, WHAT KIND OF WORK WOULD MAKE YOU RICH? being a child's doctor!

5. WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU’D MOST LIKE TO CHANGE ABOUT THE WORLD? i would change the people, not the world.

4. WHEN IT’S ALL SAID AND DONE, WILL YOU HAVE SAID MORE THAN YOU’VE DONE? i'll definitely have said more. i'm actually a woman of words, not a woman of actions.

3. IF LIFE IS SO SHORT, WHY DO WE DO SO MANY THINGS WE DON’T LIKE AND LIKE SO MANY THINGS WE DON’T DO? because, even though life is short and we're aware of it, we can not simply only do the things we like. if we all lived like that, humanity would be a complete chaos. i guess we will just live our life and try to make it last long enough to make the good things we achieve compensate the bad we have to do.

2. WHICH IS WORSE, FAILING OR NEVER TRYING? the smart answer would absolutely be "never trying" because you know what people say: it's better to regret something you did than something you didn't. but on the other hand, "falling" is also pretty bad because, you know, no matter how many good things you do, it's your failures that people will remind. so i don't really know how to chose between these two.

1. HOW OLD WOULD YOU BE IF YOU DIDN’T KNOW HOW OLD YOU ARE? i think i would be 20: young enough to still believe in fairy tales and to dream about my prince charming coming to me from nowhere; but also old enough to be responsible for someone and to be seen by other people as someone who can make its own choices.

1. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
I think I would be 30. I'm old enough to be more settled in who I am, but I'm not old enough to feel like my life is passing me by. When I think about myself, I think I'm in my early 30s. Part of that has to do with the fact that I have young children. Many of the parents of Parker & Grant's peers are in their mid-thirties. I really don't mind being 48, but how much longer do I have in my life? What have I accomplished? Am I just wasting away?

1. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
30
2. Which is worse, failing or never trying?
never trying
3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
Maybe it's out of obligation, or maybe it's something that's expected out of us from friends, family, society ect. Maybe we're always putting others first and forget to take care of ourselves. Maybe we've convinced ourselves that we don't have the money, or the time, or the right tools to do the things we want to do. Help yourself before helping others.
4. When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
Probably.
5. What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?
Eliminate apathy and ignorance.
6. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich? Anything that deals with visual arts and travel.
7. Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
Unfortunately I'm settling. i want to change this ASAP.
8. If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
In that case I have my foot in the grave. I would have taken my passion and college more seriously but that's about it.
9. To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
I haven't taken much control.
10. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
More worried about doing the right things
11. You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire. They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. The criticism is distasteful and unjustified. What do you do?
How can I respect and admire these people if they are gossipers? In any case I would defend my friend and stop hanging around these kinds of people.
12. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
Don't let anyone tell you that you're not good enough.
13. Would you break the law to save a loved one?
Depends.
14. Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity?
I don't think so. Does Van Gogh count?

16. How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy?

19. If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?

I think I'm living it right now
29. Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?
No and no.
30. What is your happiest childhood memory? What makes it so special?
I guess the 6th grade. When I felt the closest to my family.
31. At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive?

http://www.marcandangel.com/2009/07/13/50-questions-that-will-free-your-mind/

1) How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
If I woke up with amnesia, for example, I think I would guess I was 16.
2) Which is worse, failing or never trying?
It depends on the context, and how much something means to you. Imagine doing a daredevil jump across a canyon on a motorcycle. Are you doing it because you really want to, or because someone says you should? In this instance, it all depends.
But in general, I suppose that I think never trying is worse, because then you never know how it would have ended up. It might have all been fine.
3) If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
For one, because some things aren’t feasible. For another, because we have to be realistic—yes, I could blow all my money to go stalk Benedict Cumberbatch. But I need a job. I need to eat, to have a place to live. I want to be able to retire comfortably in my old age. I can still do some stuff I want. Just not all.
4) When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
Yes. I think everyone does, unless they are a person of few words.
5) What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?
How fast it is. I wish everyone had the same amount of days, the same amount of years, but that the days were longer. Then people could spend more time on things, be happier with what they do.
6) If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
Signs/notarizing marriage certificates.
7) Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
Well, I suppose both. I do what I believe in using whatever opportunities I have—settling for what I can find.
8) If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
Faster. I would already be married (maybe), with children and a job, and have my book and comics more complete than they are now (hopefully), and stuff like that.
9) To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
As much as anyone else: Mostly. We cannot choose how we start off, and certain events happen outside of us, but we can control how we grow.
10) Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
Doing the right things. I worry, sometimes, about how much of a stickler to the rules I am, because I want to do the right things. I hope I make the right decision if/when the time comes.
11) You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire. They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. The criticism is distasteful and unjustified. What do you do?
I would likely stay silent at first, wondering where this was headed. Then I would try to defend my close friend. If that didn’t work, I would say something about how I could not believe this, explain that I rather like my close friend and find him/her of just character or whatever. If they then continued, or started on me, then I would leave. (Although if this was in a business setting and I was worried about money or being fired, I would likely keep my mouth shut. I’m sorry.) (Also, if what they were saying were true, I would probably agree with them. However, this question makes it seem like these people are actively insulting and not just making observations, and so I would still end up defending my close friend.)
12) If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
People are imperfect. Give them a chance. Most do not actively try to be aggravating, but it still sometimes happens. People are just people, and many are kind.
13) Would you break the law to save a loved one?
Yes.
14) Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity?
I do not think so. This does not mean I never did, but I cannot recall a time when this occurred.
15) What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
Think. People have commented about how odd I am.
16) How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy?
Because people grew up with different experiences, and these things caused different likes and joys to occur.
17) What is one thing have you not done that you really want to do and what’s holding you back?
I want to be with someone without fear of them leaving me, and this fear is holding me back.
18) Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
Yes.
19) If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?
New Mexico or southern California, because the weather is pretty much the same in those places as Arizona and I love the lack of bugs and the beauty of the desert. (Or Japan, because Japan seems nice and I like Japanese things, which, yes, makes me a bit shallow.)
20) Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?
No.
21) Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?
If I had a good job that I could support myself with, I would rather be a joyful simpleton.
22) Which is worse, when a good friend moves away, or losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you?
When a good friend moves away. Losing touch with a good friend can happen as people grow apart, even when you’re near each other physically. It won’t necessarily happen, but it could. Maybe it’s someone’s fault, but in my life so far it’s just something that happens because we have less/no reason to hang out any more. However, when a good friend moves away it’s painful, because you are still connected to them but can no longer reach them physically, and using technology is at once harder and not the same.
23) What are you most grateful for?
There are two things—emotions and stories. Emotions are so much, and stories convey so much. These things are beautiful. (I would also like to take the moment to be grateful for music, the sun, plants, other humans, my family—)
24) Would you rather lose all of your old memories, or never be able to make new ones?
I would rather lose all of my memories. People could reintroduce themselves to me, I could rediscover old likes, etc. But not being able to make new memories would mean I am stuck at this age forever, with only these memories. There are joys there, certainly, and I would miss what I have learned, but I could re-learn and also learn more, with the ability to create new memories.
25) Is it possible to know the truth without challenging it first?
Yes.
26) Has your greatest fear ever come true?
Yes. My greatest fear has changed since then, obviously, but at least one of my greatest fears at one point in time has come true while I feared it.
27) Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?
Yes—and it matters somewhat. It is an experience I learned from, and which still affects me, though I wish it didn’t.
28) What is your happiest childhood memory? What makes it so special?
I do not know if this is really the happiest ever, but it’s the one that comes to mind right now: Being with my cousins at my grandparents on my mother’s side’s farm, eating s’mores and then keeping the fire alive even though the adults wanted us to let it die. (Also, working with two of my cousins to create an "ant hill" out of a pile of dirt, and carving out steps and such. And, well, other incidences, with family and friends.)
29) At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive?
With my friends the other night, eating out at an Italian place and talking.
30) If not now, then when?
Someday—hopefully soon.
31) If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose?
Nothing, so far. It is only during and after you have attempted or actually achieved it that there will be effects.
32) Have you ever been with someone, said nothing, and walked away feeling like you just had the best conversation ever?
No. But it sounds nice. I always feel awkward with silences, unless we’re both doing something. Otherwise I fill the silence with word vomit. Or, if I’m really tired/sick, I sit there in a daze.
33) Why do religions that support love cause so many wars?
I think because love is powerful, which can be scary to those outside of that love, but I also think it’s not just the love aspect of a religion that causes the wars.
34) Is it possible to know, without a doubt, what is good and what is evil?
No. You can, however, know what makes you feel sick inside and what makes you feel warm.
35) If you just won a million dollars, would you quit your job?
No. I would continue, because a million dollars would not support me for life, although it would allow me to get more things and to invest and gather more money off that million.
36) Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing?
More work that I actually enjoy doing. That way, it doesn’t feel like work at all.
37) Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?
No. Sometimes I feel like I’m reliving a moment, but each day feels like a special snowflake. Things are never exactly the same, even if certain events are similar because we structure certain days similarly.
38) When was the last time you marched into the dark with only the soft glow of an idea you strongly believed in?
I don’t know how long ago it was, but the last time I started writing a story, with only a vague idea in my head of where I wanted it to go, but the determination to get there however long it took.
39) If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
My best friend, second-best friend. My parents and brother. I would call the rest of my family. I would call the rest of my friends. I would visit some of my high school teachers one last time, and e-mail some college professors. I would contact some others in my life—colleagues, I suppose, or those just above me, to talk about things.
40) Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?
No. The things I want to do can be done without fame. (Although if I succeed at some, fame may come anyways, 10 year less life or no.)
41) What is the difference between being alive and truly living?
Being alive is a function. Truly living is more than functioning and continuing to function, but having joy, and sadness, and triumphs, and defeats, and so many other things. It is feeling.
42) When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right?
I think this point is different for everyone. Basically, whenever you feel that you are snapping or about to throw up on the inside.
43) If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?
Because mistakes hurt.
44) What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?
I would say even more outrageous things.
45) When was the last time you noticed the sound of your own breathing?
Just this moment. Before now, perhaps a week or two ago, when I was relaxing in the bath with incense burning.
46) What do you love? Have any of your recent actions openly expressed this love?
I love reading. The fact that I read all the time expresses this love.
47) In 5 years from now, will you remember what you did yesterday? What about the day before that? Or the day before that?
No. In a general sense I may have a vague idea of what I did, based on what school and work and social obligations required of me at the time, but these past few days have not had any amazing thing happen.
48) Decisions are being made right now. The question is: Are you making them for yourself, or are you letting others make them for you?
I am trying to make them for myself, but I do listen to what others say and decide. And sometimes, I fear going against them, or I respect the other too much, or what the other says makes sense, and I follow their lead.
49) Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?
Kind of. I talk too much, and I can be suddenly mean, but I am a generally nice person.
50) Why are you, you?
Because of the experiences I have had. This involves everything—who my ancestors are, who my relative are, what I look like, how my body functions, how people treat me, how my brain works—everything. All of these things make up me.

2. Which is worse, failing or never trying?
The obvious answer would be never trying but, then you have to stop and think about other ramifications that trying could have. Failing to properly climb the Empire State building could result in death. So, the real answer to this is a question: What is the situation?
3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
Because there are other things we have to consider outside ourselves. I like to travel but, I can't always be away from my family. I don't like to go to the beach but, my family lives in Hawaii (you can't really escape the beach). I also don't like being in large groups but, I like to go to church. For this situation, I either don't go to church and I don't have to be in a large group or I go to church and I have to be in a large group.
4. When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
Probably. I talk a lot. Plus, for me, saying is doing. Saying is the way to building great relationships. Relationships are the most important thing here.
5. What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?
I would change the social expectations. People deserve to be happy and one of the biggest factors in people missing happiness is that they feel that either they don't live up to social expectations or even worse that they feel they need too. There are many problems in this world and I wish I could fix all of them but mostly I wish people could be happy with themselves and their surroundings.
6. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
Exactly what I'm doing now: working with children or traveling to foreign places. Seeing beautiful sites and hugging people. I would love to be a professional hugger :).
7. Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
I don't really understand the first part of the question. But, I am not settling for anything. I am doing what I want. I don't want to look back and regret not doing anything. So, I'm going. I'm traveling. I'm being happy.

1. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
I feel like this question is kind of a how old do you act question. Given this, I think I’d be in my mid-twenties. I’m still childish sometimes and I want to see the world. I want to experience things. I have noting tying me down and my whole life ahead. But, I’m not a teenager behaving as though the whole world revolves around me and everything is drama. I’m too relaxed for the whole world is drama. I’m ready for a steady relationship and commitment too. I’m not looking for a fun fling or arm candy. I want someone I can share my life with. So, I’d say a solid mid-to-late twenties.

Completed 3/4/13. However, I don't know that my mind feels any freer.

This was ridiculous. The questions were not well thought out or realistic and it was completely unhelpful to me the way I'm pretty sure it was intended to be. It is so typical of this sort of "quiz" to ask questions like that that I couldn't take any of these seriously. I'm glad everyone else found these insightful, but to me they were mildly amusing at best. I guess I just can't appreciate people cooing over questions that you shouldn't even need to think about to answer. I honestly would not have ever given this a second glance if everyone hadn't made such a fuss about it.

Oh my goodness, that was insightful. I had my grandma answer after I did. I didn't expect some of the questions.

3.If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
Because we are creatures of habit, out of fear, duty, kindness to others and because it feels like life will never end and there will always be time
