Went to National Archives with Genealogy Research Institute of Virginia (GRIVA) on 4/24/13. Now have research card and understand process to research files. Copied Compiled Military Service Record for Thomas Scott Tidball and took picture with letters from Thomas to Mary Ann Braham Patton Tidball from the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Milford, Nebraska. Also identified possible direct line from Revolutionary War Patriot (George Allen).

Early developments are studied in Terry Ramsaye, A Million and One Nights: A History of the Motion Picture, 2 vol. (1926, reissued in 1 vol., 1986), a romantic account covering the period to 1925, with emphasis on American film between 1890 and 1915.
